What is this?
Welcome to the NSCC! When you made your application, accepted a position, or slated to do work with the College an account was created for you to access your resources. The process of making sure this account gets into your hands safely and securely is known as account claiming. Once you receive the name of your account and initial password, known as your initial credentials, you may follow this process to access your account.
Please note: For account claiming we use the Self-Service Password Reset tool (SSPR) to set your initial password. The same tool can be used to reset your password if you have forgotten it.

Instructions
Once you receive your initial credentials via the personal email provided you may begin this process. If you did not receive these credentials or provided an incorrect personal email you can reach out to your initial point of contact with the NSCC such as Admissions (for students) or Human Resources (for employees).
This is what the email will look like on a mobile device. This picture below is using Gmail, so there may be slight differences with your preferred email inbox.
And this is what the email will look like using Gmail on a laptop/computer.
**** For faculty and staff your user name will be your first name followed by your last name.
Once you receive the email above, navigate to https://www.nscc.ca/pwreset/ in your browser of choice to begin the below process.
You will now begin the process of resetting your password and claiming your account.
- Enter your NSCC 'W' number (W#######@nscc.ca) that you have been provided.
- Complete the Captcha.
- Your personal email address provided to the College will appear as the default contact method. Click the Blue Email Button.
5. You will receive a verification code to your personal email account. It will be in an email addressed from 'Microsoft on behalf of Nova Scotia Community College. You will need to copy that verification code back in your web browser.
6. You will paste or type in that code number and then click 'Next'.
7. Enter a new password. Passwords must meet NSCC's minimum complexity requirements:
- Minimum 12 characters.
- Contain at least 3 of 4 character types: uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols.
- Cannot contain certain account attributes (e.g. your first, middle or last name, username, address, etc).
- Cannot be on the Microsoft banned password list.
6. After entering a new password, click Finish and then you are done!

Multi-Factor Authentication
Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) is mandatory for all employee access to NSCC services. Students may also choose to enable MFA to make their account more secure, however it is not mandatory at this time.
MFA is used to make sure you are who you say you are by requiring two or more pieces of evidence that prove your identity. This evidence is known as a factor, and the requirement of a second factor greatly increases the security of your account. With multiple factors just knowing, or even guessing, your password is not enough to access your account.
When you add more 'factors' to your account, you can use them to help you reset your password in case you can't get access to your email account.
When logging into accounts off-campus, users who are enrolled in MFA will be prompted to use their NSCC login credentials and as well as their chosen method of MFA.

NSCC’s recommended app for MFA is the Microsoft Authenticator App which you download to your mobile device. It provides a fast, easy to set up, and integrated method of MFA.
