Turn off or remove reactions for messages in New Outlook or Webmail

What is this?

There are times when you do not wish to get back any emoji 'reactions' to an email you are sending.

In either New Outlook or Webmail, you can turn off that 'reaction' feature for each email that you send.

This feature is not available in Classic Outlook.

See the right side of this page to find instructions on switching back and forth between New and Classic versions of Outlook. It only takes a minute.

Instructions to turn off reactions on message being sent

  • In either New Outlook or Webmail, create your email message

  • Select 'Options' from the top menu bar

  • One of those Options is 'Disallow reactions'

  • Select that checkbox, and continue to create your email message, then send it

That setting is only in place for that single email. It must be selected for each message you do not want any reactions on.

If you don't select that checkbox again on your next message, you could get reactions on that email.

Instructions on removing a reaction you already made on a message you received

  • In New Outlook or Webmail, open the message that you have received and had already given a reaction to
  • Click the reaction emoji icon again to remove it from that message
