MyNSCC: Self-Service for Students and Applicants

What is this?

MyNSCC is the ‘Self-Service’ portal for students and applicants. It is a consolidated version of Student Center and Applicant Center, and the user experience is dynamic based on whether you are a student or an applicant. Applicants have access to a few key areas, which then evolves to include more functionality once they become a student.

Information

Student and applicant information is broken out, grouped categorically, and nested within tiles, which you can see in the below screenshot. Staff will still have access to Student Services Centre, as well as the Applicant Services Centre for troubleshooting purposes.

Within each tile there is a left-hand navigation that allows students to easily navigate the pages within the tile. The ‘MyNSCC’ button at the top of the page allows a student to return to the MyNSCC homepage.

MyNSCC for Applicants

When applicants log in to Campus Solutions, their MyNSCC homepage will contain five tiles. The tiles in the applicant view of MyNSCC are My Profile, My Applications, My Communications, My Important Links, and My Tasks.

My Profile

The My Profile tile is where personal information resides. This tile contains four pages, the first being Personal Details. The Personal Details page displays an applicant’s name(s), as well as their date of birth and gender identity. Note: Only Names can be added or updated on this page, all other personal details on this page is read only.

An applicant may have several name types on file. Every applicant or Student will have a "full" name. You may also see other name types if you provided those additional name types when you applied. Valid name types include:

  • Full Name
This name will be used to identify you on class rosters, NSCC communications, etc. This name will also appear on your NSCC transcript.
  • Other or Former1 Name
If your full name differs from that indicated on your official educational documentation (transcripts, exam results, etc.), please indicate your name used previously, i.e. maiden name.
  • Credential Name
This name will display on your credential, i.e.. Diploma, Certificate, etc. Your credential will use your Full name, should you require a different name, fill in this name type. Please be advised that any requests for a replacement parchment once issued will incur a fee.
  • Legal Name
Legal name is the name that appears on your social insurance card/letter or study permit and is the name used for Canada Revenue Agency documents (such as T2202, T4A tax forms), Service Canada documents, legal documents, student refunds sent by wire and enrolment in student health and dental benefits.

As an applicant, not all the above name types are necessary until you become a student. Please ensure your full name is accurate.

Adding a New Name Type

You can add additional names on this page.

Select the ‘+’ button to add a new name.

A new window will appear. Select the name type you want to add from the drop down menu and enter the name details. Click Save.

Updating a Name Type

If the name type already exists, but it needs to be updated, simply select the name type row and a new window (see screenshot above) will open allowing you to update that name type. Update the name and don’t forget to ‘save’ in the upper right corner.

The Contact Details page contains an applicant's email addresses and phone numbers. All of these can be edited, except for the NSCC email address.

To edit an email address, an applicant simply clicks the email address and it will open the ‘Edit Email’ window. Within this window, they can edit, delete, or set their email as ‘preferred’.

Similar to editing an email address, to edit a phone number an applicant can click on the phone number. Everything except phone type is editable; they can also delete a number or set a number as their ‘preferred’ number.

An applicant can add a phone number by clicking the ‘+’ button. Note: Only one of each phone type can be added, therefore if a phone number exists for a phone type e.g. 'Mobile', they cannot add another 'Mobile' phone number.

The Addresses page displays an applicant’s current address. This page is not editable. If an address change is required, an applicant must contact Student Services.

The Emergency Contacts page is where an applicant's emergency contacts will display.

An applicant can edit their existing emergency contacts by clicking the contact. They can edit the details of the contact, as well as set the contact as preferred. They can also delete an emergency contact.

An applicant can add an emergency contact by clicking the ‘+’ button. Here they can input details for the contact and save. Note: the ‘Phone Number’ is a required field for an emergency contact.

My Applications

The My Applications tile is where the information related to an application resides. The first page within the tile, is the Application Status page. An applicant can view the status of their application, accept/decline their offer, or withdraw their application.

The Accept/Decline page contains links to accept an offer of admission, decline an offer of admission, or return to the previous page.

If an applicant clicks ‘I Accept Admission’ they will be directed to the following page where they can pay their deposit, or return to the Application Status page. Note: they must pay their deposit in order to confirm their seat and accept their offer.

If an applicant clicks ‘I Decline Admission’ they will be directed to a confirmation page, where they can confirm that they wish to decline their offer. If an applicant declines in error, they must contact the admissions office to reverse the decision.

The Nova Scotia Applicants page is for students who are currently attending a Nova Scotia high school, or who have attended one since 2012. By inputting their high school ID number, this allows NSCC to retrieve their transcript from the Department of Education.

The Consent to Release Information page is where an applicant can specify which third party individuals to which NSCC can release information regarding their application. Consent is tied to one specific application, and must be specified for each new application.

My Communications

The My Communications page contains a table with of an applicant’s communications that they have received. The applicant can click the ‘view’ link and the communication will open in a new window as a PDF.

My Important Links

My Important Links is a collection of external links that applicants can use as support resources. This page contains links to various NSCC resources including the Academic Calendar, financial-related information, student services, as well as the helpdesk and password reset links.

My Tasks

The My Tasks tile contains an applicant’s To Do list items. If an applicant has a checklist item assigned, such as provide documentation, or high school transcript, they will show up in the ‘To Do’ list grid. The grid displays the task as well as the status.

The Holds page is more applicable to students, however if an applicant was previously a student and had outstanding charges on their account, a hold would display here. For applicants with no holds, a message will display that indicates they currently have no holds on their account.

MyNSCC for Students

MyNSCC for students contains the same tiles that an applicant sees, as well as three additional tiles: My Schedule and Grades, My Campus Finances, and My Faculty Advisors.

  • MyCreds™ provides a secure, privacy compliant, online environment for exchanging official documents and data across and beyond Canada. It provides mobile learners 24/7 access to view and share their transcripts, documents, and credentials when they want and where they want – anytime, anywhere.
  • When you request an official transcript to be sent to MyCreds™, an overnight process will send your transcript to MyCreds™.This process runs Monday through Friday. Friday and weekend requests will be processed early Monday morning.
  • Transcripts will not include course work completed prior to the 1997/1998 academic year. To obtain a transcript of coursework prior to this date please contact Student Services at the campus you attended.

The email address you enter will be used by MyCreds™ to contact you regarding your digital credentials. We strongly encourage you to use a personal email address as you will only have an active NSCC email address for a finite amount of time and may not be accessible in the future.

The Last Requested Date and Email Address Used fields at the bottom of the page will show when you last requested a transcript and what email address you entered in the fields above.

My Important Links

The My Important Links tile contains the same links for students as it does for applicants. Details can be found above under ‘MyNSCC for Applicants’.

My Faculty Advisors

The My Faculty Advisors tile enables students see their assigned faculty advisor(s). There are two views on the My Faculty Advisors page. The default view is the list view, which displays the faculty advisor's name, program and email in a table view.

The alternate view is the 'card' view, which displays the faculty advisor's details in a business card format.

If a student does not have a faculty advisor assigned, a message will display advising them to contact their Academic Chair.
