How to connect to the NSCC VPN Service

Summary

This article outlines the configuration of the FortiClient VPN software necessary to sign into the NSCC VPN Service and provides some connection troubleshooting information.

Important: Office 365 Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is required to access the NSCC VPN.  For information about Office 365 MFA go to How to Setup or Update Multi-Factor Authentication.

1.a. Installing FortiClient VPN Software (Windows)

  • On a Intune managed college laptop FortiClient VPN is available to install from Company Portal:

1. From bottom search bar, type “Company Portal” and open it.

2. In Company Portal, type “forti” on the top-middle search bar, click Enter Key, click FortiClient 7.xx.xx.

3. Click the Install button to start the installation of the client.

1.b. Installing FortiClient VPN Software (Mac)

  • On a JAMF managed college MacBook, FortiClient VPN is available to install from NSCC Self Service (Self Service+):

1. From search bar on the top, type "NSCC, ", and open Self Service+.

2. From Self Service+, type "vpn" on left side of search bar, and install Forti Client VPN 7.xx.xx.

2. Configuring the Client

1. Once FortiClient is installed, look for FortiClient VPN, and open it.


(Windows 11)


(MacOS)

2. Click the check box and accept the licensing agreement

3. For Windows, the VPN setting would be already configured.

For Mac, Select Configure VPN

Configuration Details for Mac

  • Configure SSL-VPN
  • Connection name: NSCC and optional Description
  • Set Remote Gateway to vpn.nscc.ca
  • Select "Customize Port" and Enter 443
  • Select "Enable Single Sign On (SSO) for VPN Tunnel"
  • Select "Use external browser as user-agent for saml user authentication"
  • Select Save

3. Signing In

  • Click the Connect button:

  • FortiClient will open a browser window and prompt you to authenticate, if you are already signed into your school account you will skip to the next window.
  • Once you are signed in you can close the tab in your browser:

4. How to use it?

How the VPN works is that you are connecting to a college network remotely, you can open on-site only website like PeopleSoft just like you are working while on site. (Unlike Windows App, remote window will NOT be popped up.)

While you are connected to VPN, please go to PeopleSoft link:

If you Cannot Connect from Mac

If you are using NSCC Managed Mac, and if you cannot get connected due requiring modifying Privacy & Security settings, Please open Self Service+, type "jamf" on search, click update or reinstall JAMF - Check-In, JAMF - Update Inventory, and Update - JAMF Connect.
